eleQtron develops and operates full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. Quantum computing is a new computing paradigm rapidly approaching commercial viability. Our unique approach combines laser-cooled trapped ions with microwave control and tailored magnetic fields. We are looking for a CRYOGENIC ENGINIEER.

 Responsibilities/What will you be doing?

You will be part of a team with a mission to develop, set up and operate our trapped-ion quantum computers and relevant test devices. You will collaborate closely with our international team of physicists and engineers from different disciplines. Depending on your level of experience, you will work on one or more of the following tasks:

  • Develop the cryogenic equipment (down to 4 K) for the quantum computers with a team of professional engineers.
  • Operate and maintain this cryogenic equipment.
  • Work with researchers to continuously improve the cryogenic equipment infrastructure and adapt it to the latest developments in quantum bits.
  • Discuss specification requirements with vendors.
  • You will act as a link between professional technicians and researchers who will build quantum computers together with you.
  • Assess safety risk and compliance questions regarding the cryogenics system.

Required/What skills do you need?

  • Master’s degrees in applied/experimental physics or chemistry.
  • You are able to understand the complexity of the equipment and the developers` intent and to translate these into concrete solutions. Ideally, you gathered this knowledge during a Ph.D.
  • Experience in CAD software, e.g., Autodesk Inventor.
  • Experience with cryo materials and technologies.
  • You have good knowledge of the properties of materials at low temperatures, such as superconductors, thermal and electrical conductors, expansion coefficients, etc.
  • You can fluently communicate and write in English.
  • You are creative and enjoy working in a multicultural and interdisciplinary team.

We value:

  • Communication skills in German would be desirable.
  • Knowledge and experiences on ultra-high vacuum systems, high-frequency electronics, laser optics, or atomic, molecular, and optical physics experiments.
  • Ability to perform simulations and modelling to design and analyze complex systems.
  • Written and oral communication skills, experience in writing scientific publications.
